Paper Compass is a guided journaling kit for busy professionals with creative needs who want to slow down but never quite know how to start.
Paper Compass was built for the time between tasks when you’re trying to stay busy and creative. It offers a starting point for a creative practice that fits inside a busy workweek, requires no setup, leaves you with physical proof of your emotional journey.
Each kit contains everything you need for a 20 to 60 minute session: curated magazine imagery, scissors, a glue stick, tape, stickers, and printed prompt cards calibrated to a specific emotional bearing. The kit is meant to guide you while you make a physical collage page and hopefully leave with a clearer mind.
The kits are built around a grounding belief: the hardest part of any creative practice is starting. Paper Compass removes every barrier between the intention and the act.
Our approach blends junk journaling with reflective prompting, drawing on creative recovery principles that have helped people reconnect with their inner lives through unstructured, hands-on making. It is not a substitute for clinical support or a traditional journaling practice, we believe this is a different entry point that meets you where you are.
The Reflection kit is built for the kind of stillness that is harder to find than it should be. The prompts are open and slow, designed to help you check in with yourself without forcing answers. We believe collaging gives you a way to process what words alone might not reach. This kit is designed for Sunday mornings, the end of a hard week, or any moment you have been meaning to sit with yourself and keep putting off.
The Tranquility kit works with your body, not against it. Based on calming mindfulness principles for anxiety recovery. The repetitive, tactile act of cutting and arranging activates your parasympathetic nervous system the same way deep breathing does. The prompts are grounding rather than expansive, designed to pull your attention gently into the present.
The Gratitude kit is not a list exercise. It is a way of building a visual record of what matters to you right now, using imagery and prompts that help you see abundance rather than only naming it. This kit is designed for those looking for active presence. We believe gratitude can be a physical piece of the current moment, to look back on later.
The Creative Flow kit has the loosest prompts on purpose. The flow it is about playing. Cutting shapes, placing things, moving them around, and starting over. The prompts exist only to give you a jumping-off point, where you go from there is entirely yours. This kit is the reminder that making something does not need a reason.
Zoe Requena Bustillo is a multidisciplinary artist, entrepreneur, and creative based in Upstate NY. Born in Venezuela and shaped by seven countries, she holds a BFA in Studio Arts and an MS in Entrepreneurship and Emerging Enterprises from Syracuse University. Her work across collage, installation, and community arts has always centered on creating space for people to feel something real.
Paper Compass grew directly from that question. After 7 years of active journaling and experience teaching art in community settings, running a nonprofit zine collective, and watching people light up the moment they were handed a material to work with, she built the kit she wished had existed sooner.
